The temple designed by Gaudí will reopen its doors to visitors on Saturday May 29. Individual tickets will be available from next Friday through its website, from 12 noon. At the moment, the visits will only be suitable in the mornings, from 9 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon, only on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). This is the start of a new phase in the gradual reopening of the Temple that will allow anyone to discover the Basilica.

The Construction Board of the temple has reported in a press release this Wednesday that it is committed to the reopening, but always subject to possible changes according to the evolution of the current health situation, changes in the measures of the Generalitat and guaranteeing the viability of visits . The foundation of the basilica has clarified that any change will be informed through its website or social networks.

Tickets reactivation

The Sagrada Familia closed last October 2020 due to the health crisis. Despite this, in summer it reopened its doors after the confinement stage. He did it first for sanitarians, law enforcement officers and other professionals essential to keeping the city running as the foundation said in a statement.

In July of last year, the foundation wanted to pay tribute to the citizens of Barcelona, with the ‘Barcelona Hour tickets’ so that the people could enter to visit the religious monument. However, a part of this group could not take advantage of them even though they had already bought them. Therefore, the tickets for those dates have been rescheduled for next fall. Those responsible for the temple have reported that they will contact by email with people who could not enjoy the visit.

Novelties in the work

On April 20 the assembly of the shaft that crowns the tower of the Virgin Mary was placed in the Sagrada Familia. This is a metal piece measuring 10.80 meters. The tower of the Virgin Mary is the only point in the cathedral where the works have been restarted, since the construction was paralyzed in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Now, they plan to place in December a luminous 12-pointed star of steel and glass over seven meters. The goal is for it to be ready by the end of this year. This news has been a positive point in the progress of construction, after it was announced in September 2020 that the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia was not going to be finished by 2026, as planned.
