thabibDonald Trump has halted the processing of all immigration requests from Afghanistan, after a man shot two National Guard soldiers near the White House.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said the decision was made pending security and vetting protocols. The suspect, 29, entered the United States in 2021 from Afghanistan under a Biden-era immigration program after the Taliban took power. It aimed to resettle those who took ‘significant risks’ to support US troops in Afghanistan.
The USCIS said in a statement: “Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols. Safety of our homeland and of the American people remains our singular focus and mission.”
It is being treated as an act of terror. Both victims are said to be in critical condition.

Trump: “If they can’t love our country, we don’t want them”
The US president, who has already declared a national emergency on immigration, said: “We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here, or add benefit to our country. If they can’t love our country, we don’t want them.”
He added that Afghanistan is a “hellhole on earth.”
The suspect was one of 76,000 Afghans brought to the US under Biden’s ‘Operation Allies Welcome’ program. There are nearly 200,000 Afghan immigrants in the country, according to the Migration Policy Institute.
The White House said: “This animal would’ve never been here if not for Joe Biden’s dangerous policies which allowed countless unvetted criminals to invade our country and harm the American people.
It added: “The Trump Administration is taking every measure possible – in the face of unrelenting Democrat opposition – to get these monsters out of our country and clean up the mess made by the Biden Administration.”
