The ceremony took the biggest fashion event by storm

Met Gala was held on May 2 at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The event has returned to its traditional date: the first Monday in May, which in 2021 was altered by Covid-19. This year has been the continuation of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” from 2021. With this second part: “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” that gave an overview of men’s and women’s clothing in North America from the 18th Century.

The annual gala is one of the most anticipated events where the fashion industry shines and raises funds to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. As always, the honorary co-hosts were Tom Ford (American designer), Adam Mosseri (head of Instagram) and Anna Wintour (editor of Vogue in the USA). The night was in the hands of the official co-chairs Regina King (actress and filmmaker), Blake Lively (actress) and her husband Ryan Reynolds (actor) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (actor and playwright).

Gilded Glamour in the Met Gala

The dress code this year was Gilded Glamour and White Tie, for this reason, extravagant and baroque dresses were expected. On the red carpet, celebrities have chosen the dresses that they have considered appropriate for the event. However, not everyone has managed to hit the outfit with the dress code, considering that the Gilded Glamor referred to the Gilded Age (1870-1890) where velvet, headdresses or hats, corsets, gloves and many other accessories were the protagonists of that time.

One of the best valued has been the co-president Blake Lively with an Atelier Versace dress. According to Vogue, the actress explained that “this dress was a tribute to some of the city’s iconic buildings“. In the part of her bust, she wore a corset that simulated the Empire State Building. The copper dress represented the classic architecture of the city that has oxidized over time, just like her dress that when she reached the bottom of the stairs turned into a green one. The actress accessorized the look with a 7-pointed crown referencing the Statue of Liberty. What is more, the tail was patterned after the constellations painted on Grand Central Station. Without a doubt, Lively was the queen of the ceremony.

The Catalan singer Rosalia shone with her dress signed by Givenchy. She wore a white tulle and a mermaid cut full of rhinestones, always with her personal touch. On the other hand, the Hadid sisters and the Jenners did not hit the nail on the head with their outfits.

This Met Gala has left many different opinions. But as in all events, the dress code is not always followed. Even so, there was a lot of expectation at this Met because in 2021 it was held later due to the pandemic and it was not as spectacular as expected. Undoubtedly, the gala had a variety of outfits, although some were more appropriate than others.
