The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the most important event of the technological industry of the world. This event is celebrated this week and there are some important roles that often go unnoticed: hostesses. While everyone focus on the latest technological advancements on the world stage, behind the scenes, hostesses work tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Hostesses act as brand ambassadors, providing crucial information to attendees and ensuring visitors’ experiences are positive. From directing attendees to designated areas to providing basic technical assistance, to just standing there and smiling to guests, their presence is an invaluable pillar in the event’s success- While their presence may seem primarily aesthetic, hostesses often possess deep knowledge of the products and services they represent. They are extensively trained to understand technical details and respond to a wide range of attendees’ questions. Behind their elegant appearance lie highly trained and well-informed individuals.
Despite their importance, the work of hostesses often goes unnoticed. While industry leaders receive praise and attention, the contributions of hostesses are rarely publicly acknowledged. It’s time to change this dynamic and properly value the vital role they play in the realitzation of the MWC and similar events.
Evolution
Over the years, there has been a growing presence of hostesses, and we’ve been moving away from stereotypes by including men in hostess roles as well. However, there are still areas where improvement is needed, particularly concerning the treatment of women in hostess positions. For instance, many stands still require hostesses to wear high and uncomfortable heels during their 8-hour shifts, tight dresses, and they will be positioned strategically.
In summary, protocol plays a crucial role in events like the MWC by contributing to a successful and professional experience for all involved, from companies and attendees to organizers and speakers.
Furthermore, for a more extense research, I did a report with some interviews where I’ve delved deep into the inner workings of the MWC, shining a spotlight on the often overlooked role of the hostesses.
