Since the invasion of Ukraine started, over 1 million refugees have crossed polish’s borders. Poles are trying to help Ukrainians in every way possible, starting with offering them food, ending with giving them accommodation. They are organizing fundraisers, donating money, clothes, things that might be needed, and they are giving their time, in order to help.
Free of charge are doctor’s appoinments, medicines from pharmacies, as well as public transport and trains going for example to Berlin. Lawyers and psychologists are offering their help free of charge. Citizens are offeirng their help in moving forward to other countires. Everyone is in a high state of mobilization. Poles are doing all of it out of their own free will and initiative.
When asked how you can help Ukrainians, they answer
“At the moment top down coordination is the most important, so it means constructive and long term oriented help. So you can donate money to charities like the Red Cross,as well as organize your own money collections. You can find ways to provide refugees with accommodation or work (…) and something, which is most elementary, but at the same time most significant is the mental support, so please try to support Ukrainians from your surroundings.”
