Weddings are fireworks display of emotions, a harmony of love, happiness, and unforgettable moments. For Kristina Alexandrova, a 24-year-old gifted wedding photographer hailing from Russia but now calling Barcelona home for nearly three years, it is an honor to capture these special moments and preserve them for eternity.
Let’s start with your journey into wedding photography. Can you tell us a bit more about what led you to pursue a career in this field?
Kristina: Of course. My passion for visual art, especially cinematography and fine art, has been with me since childhood. However, it was a twist of fate – falling in love with a wedding photographer at the age of 17 – that ignited my interest in wedding photography. Despite the eventual end of that relationship, I found inspiration in his experiences. Consequently I decided to pursue photography as a career. Saving up from my job at Burger King, I bought a camera and set out to become the best wedding photographer in my city. And well, here I am today.
That’s quite a journey! It seems that Barcelona have also played a significant role in your life and work. What motivated your decision to move there, and how has the city influenced your photography?
Kristina: Barcelona has been my dream city since my first visit as a tourist five years ago. The moment I arrived, I felt a sense of belonging and knew I had to make it my home. Three years ago, after finishing university, I finally made the move. The city has had a profound personal and artistic impact on me. I’ve grown more mature, and my work has evolved to become more intentional and nostalgic, yet still emotionally charged. Additionally, Barcelona’s energy resonates with mine, reflecting in my photography. One thing that haven’t changed for sure – it’s still very emotional. I love seeing and capturing people’s emotions in the moment.
Speaking of your photography, can you describe your typical style or approach in capturing weddings? How do you ensure your work stands out in a competitive industry?
Kristina: I like to blend documentary and editorial styles, focusing on authentic moments while adding an editorial flair for visually stunning images. Rather than consciously trying to stand out, I focus on staying true to myself and my artistic vision. Authenticity is key, and I believe my clients are drawn to that.
Have you encountered any particularly challenging or unusual weddings in your career? How did you adapt to overcome obstacles?
Kristina: Thankfully, I haven’t faced many challenges during weddings. However, I recall one instance where it started raining before the ceremony, leaving the bride anxious about her bridal portraits. I had to step in not just as a photographer, but as a calming presence, guiding her through breathing exercises to ease her nerves. Moments like these remind me that
“you’re much more than a wedding photographer – you’re also a therapist, best friend and many other things.”
So it must be really important for you to establish an emotional connection with the people you photograph? How does this influence your work?
Kristina: Establishing an emotional connection is paramount in my work. It allows me to capture genuine moments and emotions, resulting in more authentic and impactful photographs. When my subjects feel comfortable and relaxed, they can truly be themselves in front of the camera, leading to beautiful and timeless images.

It’s truly been a privilege to delve into your creative process, Kristina. Your ability to encapsulate the essence of love and intimacy through your lens is awe-inspiring and we can see a lot of that on your Instagram. Before we conclude, could you share any upcoming projects or themes you’re excited to explore in your photography?
Kristina: I have two recent shoots that hold a special place in my heart. One captures the 80s romance and passion between Ashley and Agustin.
The other showcases Chris and Cara’s intimate moments amidst the stunning scenery of Portugal. Each shoot was unique and effortless, reflecting the deep connection between the couples and myself.
Thank you, Kristina, once again for the opportunity to share your work and insights with AulaNews readers. We hope the upcoming wedding season will be as good as last year.
